Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) are where Dubai meets the sea: a waterfront promenade lined with towers, cafés and yachts, next to one of the city’s most popular public beaches. This guide explains what to see, how to get there, where to stay and how to plan a relaxed day — written by the CanalMarket team, with offices in Dubai and Panama.
Dubai Marina and JBR at a glance
Dubai Marina is a residential and leisure district built around a long man-made canal on the western side of the city. A pedestrian promenade, Marina Walk, follows the water past restaurants, cafés and moored boats, with the district’s high-rise skyline all around.
JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) sits between the Marina and the Gulf. Its outdoor boulevard, The Walk, and the open-air area known as The Beach lead straight onto JBR Beach, a wide public beach with views of Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah.
Together they make one of the easiest areas of Dubai for visitors: walkable, close to the sea and full of places to eat. If this is your first trip, start with our Dubai travel guide to see how the Marina fits with the rest of the city.
Things to do in Dubai Marina and JBR
Walk Marina Walk
The promenade is best in the late afternoon and evening, when the heat drops and the towers light up. Walk at your own pace, stop for coffee and watch the boats come and go.
Spend time on JBR Beach
JBR Beach is a public beach with soft sand and calm water on most days. There are lifeguarded areas, showers and plenty of cafés behind the sand. Follow the flags and the lifeguards’ instructions.
The Walk and The Beach at JBR
Shops, restaurants and street-level cafés line The Walk, while The Beach adds open-air dining and family-friendly spaces right next to the sand. In the cooler months the area is lively well into the night.
See the Marina from the water
Boat tours, dhow dinner cruises and private yacht charters leave from the Marina and show you the skyline, the Palm and the coast from the sea. Choose a licensed operator and confirm what is included before you book.
Bluewaters Island and Dubai Harbour
Bluewaters Island, just off JBR and reachable on foot by a bridge, has a promenade, restaurants and hotels. Dubai Harbour, between the Marina and Palm Jumeirah, is a newer waterfront area for boats and events.
Water sports
Depending on the season and conditions, you will find paddleboarding, kayaking, jet skis and other water activities around JBR and the Marina. Always use licensed providers and wear the safety equipment they give you.
A relaxed day in the Marina
- Morning: beach time at JBR while the sun is gentler, then a swim and breakfast at one of the cafés behind the sand.
- Midday: head indoors when it gets hot — your hotel, a mall or a long lunch in the shade.
- Late afternoon: walk to Bluewaters Island for the views back to JBR.
- Sunset: take a boat or dhow cruise from the Marina, or watch the sunset from the beach.
- Evening: dinner along Marina Walk or The Walk at JBR.

How to get there and get around
- Dubai Metro: the Red Line has stations within walking distance of the Marina and connects it with Downtown Dubai and the airport. Pay with a rechargeable Nol card.
- Dubai Tram: runs through the Marina and JBR and links with the Metro and with the Palm Jumeirah monorail connection. It is the easiest way to move between the Marina, JBR and nearby areas.
- Taxis and ride-hailing apps: easy to find around the Marina and JBR; traffic can be heavy in the evening and at weekends.
- On foot: Marina Walk, The Walk and JBR Beach are all connected, so once you are there you can walk almost everywhere.
Staying in Dubai Marina or JBR
The Marina and JBR are a good base if you want the beach and the city in one place. You will find beachfront resorts at JBR, hotels and serviced apartments around the Marina, and many holiday rentals. The trade-off: Downtown Dubai and the Burj Khalifa are a longer ride away than from Business Bay or Downtown itself.

Practical tips
- Best time to visit: roughly November to March, when the weather is comfortable for the beach and the promenade. In summer, plan outdoor time for early morning and evening.
- Dress: swimwear is for the beach and pools; cover up when you walk to cafés, shops and malls.
- Sun and water: use sunscreen, wear a hat and drink plenty of water, even in the cooler months.
- Weekends: the weekend in the UAE is Saturday and Sunday, and the beach and promenades get busy — go early.
- Photos: ask before photographing people, especially families.
